Therapy Incentives Through Play

When: Spring/Summer 06

A general framework for incentivizing children to participate in physical and occupational therapy, therapy incentives through play offers patients and therapists more positive therapeutic outcomes through toys. Current therapy incentives are cost prohibitive and unengaging. Therapy in itself can be monotonous and difficult. By finding the right toy that encourages a child to participate in therapy, we can achieve more positive outcomes.

The therapy end of the system can be any therapy modality, such as strengthening or range of motion, that outputs an analog (degree continuum) signal. Engaging the therapy sends a RF signal to a receiver connected to a wide range of inexpensive, off the shelf toys. By finding the toy that will motivate an individual child, we can turn therapy time into play time.

This product also breaks down the barriers between disable children and the general populace by letting disabled children by play with toys that were previously inaccessible.
