City of Memory

When: Spring 2006
City of Memory is a narrative map of New York City that is currently being created as a web application by Local Projects and CityLore. City of Memory received the competitive NEA "Resources for Change" grant for technologically innovative arts projects, and is scheduled to launch in mid 2006. Visitors will share in a collective memory through experiencing and submitting place-based stories. One layer will host classic New York stories from CityLore's collections, visitor's submissions, and cultural partner archives like the Museum of the City of New York, the Maps Division of the New York Public Library, and PlaceMatters.net. Another layer will host all the submitted stories, an emergent field narrative. All maps will be searchable by street address, allowing visitors to locate all the stories that surround a single location.

Involvement: Local Projects Internship. Back end programming.
